We had mice last winter, and it drove me crazy hearing them scratch in the walls. Finally, I went around the whole house with a caulking gun and steel wool, sealing every tiny gap I could find—around pipes, under the sink, even where the cable comes in. It's amazing how small a space they can squeeze through. Took a weekend, but it totally stopped the problem. No more droppings in the pantry, and I can sleep without hearing them scurry above the ceiling.
